I enjoy watching what our former students are doing in school. We had several inducted into the National Junior Honor Society at Vineland Middle School recently. The following former Avondale Elementary students were inducted this year:
Cinthia Arreola-Castandea, Emily Crouch, Sienna Duran, Kayleigh Larkins, Gianna Manzanares, Nayeley Martinez-Plancarte, Victoria Teschner
We know these students will continue on the path of academic success
We will begin our State testing for 3rd, 4h, and 5th grade students March 27th through April 12, 2018. These tests help us know what your child can and cannot do so that we can better serve them. Please do not schedule doctor’s appointments during this testing window of March 27-April 12. It is very difficult to make up these tests. Unless your child is sick, please make sure they are at school. I sincerely appreciate your support in this matter.
We are drawing near to the end of another school year. Every school year seems to fly faster then the last. It is my hope that you believe your child received a quality education this year. We have worked very hard and although we never feel like we do enough to get children where they need to be, I can guarantee you that we have done our very best with the time we have with the children. Our motto here is that “every minute counts” and we strive to insure that we are using our time wisely. With that said, I am looking to the future and asking that you try very hard to make doctor’s appointments, dentist appointments, or other business appointments, on Fridays or on weekends. We have had a large number of parents taking students out of school early or missing a half or whole day for these appointments. Because of our four-day week, we need your child to be here everyday unless he/she is sick. I can’t stress how important it is for them to be in class because he/she will miss out on instruction and every minute counts for our students. We only have 30 days of instruction left so let’s make the most of them. There is a lot going on in April and May so please stay tuned to what is happening via notes or school messenger so you don’t miss out.
This year is going fast. I know I say this every year, but……every year seems to go faster and faster. This is my fourteenth year here at Avondale and I can honestly say its been a great journey. I love the students and I enjoy and appreciate working with all of my parents. You are the best, because you genuinely care about your child/ren.
The last nine weeks is a hectic one as we have a lot going on before the school year ends. This is the time of year that we take field trips and have other activities. We will keep you informed of anything going on here at school because we want you to know that you are invited to our activities.
WORLD’S FINEST CHOCOLATE FUNDRAISER
We have begun our WFC sale and we are off to a “FANTASTIC” start!! Please come in and see the awesome prizes we have for the winners! After just 1 box sole, your child will be winning prizes.. Remember, all of the proceeds go towards our school field trips and other fun school activities.. If it is possible, we are asking to have 100% participation this year. That means, we would like EVERY child to sell at least 30 candy bars. That way, every student is contributing their part in the funding of these fun activities that they ALL participate in. a BIG THANK YOU to our parents for all your support. We could not be successful with YOU! The WFC Sale will run through Spring Break
We will be having our Kindergarten registration on April 9th from 8:00 am until 4:00 pm her at Avondale Elementary. If you have a student who is five years old, or will be five on or before June 1st, please call the office to schedule an appointment. Also, if you know someone, in our area, who has a child this age, please have them call us so we can get him/her registered as well.
There will be times due to the weather that we have a late start or a complete cancellation of school. You should receive a call from either our office or the district office informing you of this. If you are not receiving a call on these days, it is possible that we have your number wrong in our system. It is very important to keep us posted of any phone number changes in case of an emergency. Please remember on late start days breakfast will NOT be served so please make sure your child eats breakfast at home. Late start days are always two hours later. Therefore, if your child gets picked up by the bus at 7:30 a.m., he/she will get picked up at 9:30 a.m.. School will begin at 9:45 a.m. and students will be considered tardy if they are not here at 9:45 a.m..
Saturday, January 28th, six of our students auditioned and were selected to perform for the Colorado All State Choir at the Broadmoor in Colorado Springs. We are fortunate to have Mrs. Teschner, our music teacher, as she is one of a few Pueblo teachers who participate in this wonderful event. Approximately 400 students from throughout the state of Colorado came together and performed some very difficult music pieces before an audience of approximately 1,000 people. Augustus Crouch, Amilia Gallegos, Troy Spedilari, Hannah Sais, Shania Martinez, and Matthew Sigler represented Avondale Elementary. They made us proud. A special thank you to Mrs. Teschner for making this opportunity possible for our students

Starting January 8th, all students at Avondale Elementary will be eating FREE lunch. If you were paying for your child’s lunch and had a balance, the balance was also deleted. The reason this happened is because as a school we had the majority of parents fill out the lunch form online or a hard copy. We are at the percentage rate where all students can eat free lunch. That is why it is very important to fill out this form. Our Title I funding is also affected by this. Next year, we much have 100% of parents filling out the form so that we can continue to have free lunch for all students.
