VISITORS:  All visitors must report to the office.  Please feel welcome to visit, observe and volunteer.  If you would like to have extended time to speak with a teacher, please call the office to make an appointment outside of class hours.  Under no circumstances is anyone allowed to go to the classrooms or anywhere on the premises to talk to a child or teacher, or take them from the building without checking with the office.

ATTENDANCE:  Attendance is critical to the success of a student.  Please encourage excellent attendance for your children.  If your child is absent, however, please notify the school office as soon as possible at 947-3484.  Students who are tardy miss out on important beginning-of-the-day information.  If your child is tardy, please sign him/her into school at the office.  You will receive a letter after 4, 8, and 10 absences.  After 10absences, you will be referred to the Director of Student Services to begin truancy proceedings.

EMERGENCY PHONE CALLS:  Please restrict calls to students as to emergency needs.  You must call or send a note with your child if you plan to make a change to their daily routine.  Announcements for messages to children will be made at 3:20 p.m.  Calls must be made by 3:15 p.m. to ensure that your child can receive their message before leaving school.

 MEDICATION POLICY:  Pueblo County School District 70 Policy does NOT allow the school to administer any type of medication to students without a physician’s prescription and written permission from the parent.  Please contact the office, 947-3484, for the proper forms if your child needs medication.

LUNCH INFORMATION:  Avondale Elementary was on a school-wide free lunch status.  To keep this status, we still need each family to complete a Free/Reduced Lunch Application.  This application is included in the District 70’s on-line forms.  This year, not all students will eat free. Your child’s lunch status will be dependent upon your income.  All students will eat breakfast at NO charge.

BUSING / PARENT PICK-UP and DROP-OFF PROCEDURES:  The bus loop is located on the west side (front) of the building.  The pick-up/drop-off loop is on the south side of the building.  If you are picking up your student early, please come into the office to sign your student out.  If you are picking up your student after school, please wait in the parent pick-up loop until all the buses have left the premises.  The buses leave at 3:35 p.m. , and then your student/s will be dismissed.  We ask you to then proceed into the bus loop to pick your child up in the front of the building.  Please do not leave your car unattended as we want the flow of the traffic to be on-going.

 WALKERS:  Here at Avondale, many of our students walk home.  In the effort to ensure their safety, these students will only be dismissed after the buses have left the premises.

BUS POLICY:  Our Transportation Dept. is being outsourced by FIRST STUDENT.  Students who ride the bus are expected to follow the guidelines provided by FIRST STUDENT.  Your child should receive a copy of these guidelines from their bus driver.  If your child is not home at their scheduled route time, you may call our office at 947-3484.  You may also call the office of FIRST STUDENT at 544-7589 with any bus route questions that you may have.  They will be happy to assist you.

NO PARKING IN FIRE LANE:  Our Fire Department has asked that we remind all parents and staff not to park in the bus loop in front of school during school hours.  This is our Fire Lane and must be kept clear for  EMERGENCY VEHICLES ONLY.  Violators will be ticketed.

CHANGE OF ADDRESS OR PHONE NUMBER:  Our office keeps an emergency procedure card on each student.  All parents should have a phone number where they may be reached during the day, in case of an emergency concerning their child.  It is the parent’s responsibility to notify our office immediately of any changes to their address or phone number.  Also, please contact us with any changes to your child’s emergency contact information.

WEE DELIVER POST OFFICE:  Our school continues to implement the Wee Deliver Postal Program.  Students and adults are encouraged to send mail through our school post office.  Outside mail will be delivered to our school with a .45 stamp.  Call the office for your child’s address.  Students may apply for a post office position every nine weeks.

AVONDALE MEDIA CENTER / SATELLITE LIBRARY:  The Avondale Media Center is open Monday through Thursday for student use.  It houses many fine books, including our Accelerated Reader Program.  Please encourage your child to participate in this program.  We also have an excellent Satellite Library.  This is available to our community through the cooperation of the Pueblo City-County Library District and Pueblo County School District 70.  We encourage you to visit our Media Center and utilize these services.

SATELLITE LIBRARIAN/HOURS: 

Mrs. Lorina Messenger –MON-2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Mrs. Paula Pryich -WED-2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.

TEXTBOOKS:  All textbooks and library books are loaned to students free of charge.  However, students are responsible for lost or damaged books and will be expected to pay for them before another book will be issued to the student.   We urge students to take good care of books to avoid an assessment for damages or any penalty at the end of the year.

CELL PHONES AND OTHER ELECTRONIC DEVICES:   We ask that you not send cell phones to school with your child.  They are not allowed to have them in the classroom.  Please call our office if you feel there is a need that your child must bring their cell phone to school.  Other electronic devices are never allowed in school.  This includes Ipods, MP3 Players, PSP’s and Game Boys etc.  We will not be responsible if these items are brought to school and they get broken, lost or stolen.

 DRESS CODE INFORMATION:  Students are asked to wear clothing conducive to the educational setting.  This includes hair coloring and haircuts that distract from a learning environment.  (Mohawks are not allowed at AVE)  No hats/coats in school, no baggy pants or clothes that expose excessive skin (including spaghetti straps for girls).  Also, nothing that contains inappropriate symbols or words.  Shorts are acceptable through the end of September and after April 1st.  We request that shorts and skirts are at least at a fingertip length.  Students are encouraged to wear tennis shoes for PE and safety reasons.

This is in accordance with the Pueblo County School District 70 Student-Parent PK-12 Handbook. 

LABELING YOUR CHILD’S PERSONAL BELONGINGS:  Please make sure you put your child’s name on all coats and other personal belongings.  We have such a large “Lost and Found” each the year.  Please come in to check if your child has lost a personal item.

STUDENT BIRTHDAY CELEBRATIONS:  Please not the Changes Below….

ALL BIRTHDAYS WILL BE CELEBRATED THE SECOND THRUSDAY OF EACH MONTH

You are welcome to bring treats for your child’s class to celebrate their birthday at school.  Please limit your treats to store bought goodies, wrapped candy or treat bags.  Please bring your child’s treats at approximately 2:00-2:30 pm.  The celebration will take place at the end of the day
