From the Principal…………..

I hope you all enjoyed Thanksgiving and the time with your child(ren).  We are quickly approaching another holiday and another break of school.  Our winter break technically begins on December 25th although there is no school on December 20 and Dec 21st for literacy testing.  you will be receiving a note stating what time you need to bring in your child/children for literacy testing.  Students and staff will return to school on Monday, January 8, 2017.  This is a long break and I can’t and I can’t stress enough the importance of having your child read during the break.  There are also computer programs that your child can work on during this time.  If you are not aware of these programs that will help your child, please call your child’s teacher and they can give you that information.  I am sure that your child needs a break as well but 15 minutes a day will be very beneficial to him/her.  Because of the literacy testing on December 20th and December 21st, your child will be out of school for 19 days (this includes the weekends.)

Christmas tree decorating

Every year, we are invited to decorate the Christmas tree that is located in the heart of Avondale right next to the Loaf ‘N Jug.  This year we will be decorating the tree on Thursday, December 14th at 1:30 p.m.  You are welcome to join us if you would like.  Our students will be walking to the tree and then singing a few Christmas carols.  The Community Tree Lighting will he held on Saturday, December 16th at 5:00 p.m. This is always a fun event and it is open and free to the public.  I hope that you can join us!

Literacy Testing

Please not that there is no school on Wednesday, December 20th and Thursday, December 21st for Literacy testing.  You may need to bring your child to school for testing on one of those days.  A letter will be going home soon with the scheduled date and time of testing for your child.  It is imperative that we test your child so please make sure you attend at the scheduled time or make other arrangements with your child’s teacher.  Our goal is to make sure we test ALL students before the winter break because that will give us a better idea of your child’s reading ability.  Typically, students regress during a break.

We wish you a Merry Christmas and A very Happy New Year!
